Madrasa
"Isa Bey"
A center of knowledge.
A road to the future.

More than school.
An education for life.
The parallel for girls in Tetova was opened in the school year 2004/2005. The madrasa unites education with religious, moral and national values, under the umbrella of the Islamic Religious Community.
Islamic education.
A living legacy.
Knowledge has a fundamental place in Islam. The first verses of the Qur'an connect faith with reading, writing and learning, while the message of the Prophet Muhammed a.s. presents the search for knowledge as a Muslim's duty. This connection between faith and education lies at the foundation of the activity of the Madrasah.
The Islamic Religious Community in North Macedonia, through Reis ul-Ulema, muftis and leaders of educational institutions, has continuously worked for the education of the younger generations. In this effort, the contribution of believers, who supported the development and continuity of religious education, was also important.
The tradition of Islamic learning in these lands is related to the very presence of Islam. The Isa Bey Madrasah in Skopje is one of the institutions that represents this heritage. In the institutional history, madrassas are presented as centers of preservation of religious and national identity, especially during the persecutions and the destruction of educational and cultural life at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. From the Ottoman period until today, many generations of students have been formed in these institutions.

A journey
through the centuries.
The history of the Madrasa places its foundation in 1440, in Skopje, and connects its name with the founder Isa Bey. The journey has not been uninterrupted: the institution has collapsed several times. In 1689, when Skopje burned during the intervention of General Picolomini, the Madrasah was completely destroyed. Its remains were preserved until the eve of the First World War.
At the beginning of the thirties, the demand of the population for the restoration of the institution increased, despite the opposition of the Yugoslav authorities. The reactivation and inauguration took place on October 2, 1932. In the period of activity 1936–1941, before the Second World War, the institution had 32 students. This stage was interrupted by the circumstances of the war and the system that followed.
After the interruption during the communist period, the Madrasa resumed its activity on October 15, 1984. The reopening was realized with the initiative of the Islamic Religious Community and with the support of the Muslim population. Its center operates in Kondovo, Skopje, while the educational network has expanded with branches in Skopje, Tetova, Gostivar and Stip.

Residual value.
Training in the Madrasah includes knowledge and the development of religious, moral and national values. The institutional background highlights the achievements of former students who have continued their studies in different universities, as well as the role of the school in their academic preparation and in the cultivation of faith and morals.
Behind this process are committed teachers and the care of BFI's leading institutions: staff preparation, infrastructure and teaching programs are part of the support for the smooth running of education. In 2025, the Isa Bey Madrasah was accredited by the Ministry of Education of North Macedonia.
In addition to the Madrasah, the Faculty of Islamic Sciences in Skopje operates within the BFI. This institution of higher education prepares theologians and young cadres for Islamic religious service and is also accredited by the Ministry of Education. Both institutions are part of the educational structure of the Islamic Religious Community.
